Ahead of the tournament, the league announced its player of the year: Zeke Mayo.
He's the one who got away. :sigh: Maybe next time.

Sometimes the shots don't fall. How do you react when that happens?
Do you get frustrated and sloppy? Or can you keep your focus and keep playing your game?
Against Denver, our guys are proving they can. This first half has been simultaneously very ugly and very encouraging.

The second half: not so much.
If Courseault decides that he is going to be the difference maker instead of deferring to better offensive players, our season is going to end.

So disappointing. The sad fact is that we didn’t deserve to win. Instead of closing this game down after an early lead, we let Denver come back and spent the last 8-10 minutes trying to keep up.

That one stings. Had the chance to ice the game away and let them hang around instead. Good look at the end as well, but credit to them for the block. Roos still looking for that elusive tournament win…

Would we have won the game if individuals had not won.....
Coach of the Year? Newcomer of the Year? Freshman of the Year? Sixth Man of the Year? 1st Team Defense?
At least they can admire their personal trophies/achievements, while the team goes home.
Portal time!
Who leaves?
You know with this lackluster effort, outside voices are going to have an easier time to get talent to leave.
At least this leaves Roo fans more time to enjoy the sights and shops of Sioux Falls without having to be concerned about attending a ballgame.
Has anything really been accomplished this season???
We ended this season no closer to a tournament bid than last season.
A team that patted itself on the back for its' basketball IQ seems to lack self-awareness.

If Courseault decides that he is going to be the difference maker instead of deferring to better offensive players, our season is going to end. It is the mental disintegration at the end that hurts most. Mental toughness is not the same thing as basketball IQ. They showed fight all year long. But in the biggest moments, this team was pretty consistently dumb. Starting right now, I'm going to pretend Khristion Corseault never happened. I understand why he was necessary, and that there were not a lot of alternatives. And over the course of forty minutes, he wasn't a bad player, at least by Summit League standards. But I am very ready to see a different player get the ball in crunch time.

What I have been telling myself to feel better about this loss...
"Would we have really been able to beat SDSU in the finals in a packed arena of SDSU fans?"
I doubt it. I would have loved to see them in the finals, but I still believe that SDSU is the best team in the League.
To answer "has anything really been accomplished this season?". I think so, I think Menzies did show that he can rally the troops when we were playing atrocious basketball. The Sacramento State game was one of the worst DI basketball games I have ever watched, ever. After that loss, I assumed we would finish 8th or 9th in the Summit League. The fact that we finished over .500 in league play and finished 2nd is significant. Now, one could argue that unless you play well in the conf. tournament, exposure is low and it doesn't do much to help recruiting, etc.
We will continue to live and die by the transfer portal. Eventually, I think we will get the right mix of people from the portal that can with this tournament.

The roos play every year in an empty gym at the tournament for 20 years. In those 20 years they have never made their shots. i can't think of one game, besides one where Mike Watson went off. This is on the administration that keeps putting kids into these empty gyms for the most important games of most likely their basketball career.
If you know the most important game is going to be an empty gym you need to schedule more empty neutral site games. We didn't shoot well in Bahamas either. Or more importantly, you need to get into a tournament that has fans will show up.
I would be pressing harder to team up with oral roberts, denver, ohmaha and forming a revenue payout if games continue to be played in dakotas or i would look elsewhere.

Always tricky to build chemistry with a bunch of transfers.
The metro KC high school teams are really good right now. I hope our staff is talking to some of those under recruited juniors.

There is zero reason that the denver vs UMKC game could not have been played at UMKC other than being bullied by the Dakotas. Has the administration even brought this up?

The game had the energy and intensity of a scrimmage. Its a joke that we play the most important games in a vacant gym.
I appreciate the announcer asking the commissioner who dodge the question by the way how ridiculous this is and why he thinks this is a good idea?

There is zero reason that the denver vs UMKC game could not have been played at UMKC other than being bullied by the Dakotas. Has the administration even brought this up? I don’t think there are many alternatives to this when it comes to conference tournaments. We’d be playing in an empty Orleans Arena if we were still in the WAC, and we’d be playing in an empty arena in Indianapolis if we joined a conference such as the Horizon League.
