I have the same question as a person who replied to that post: where would they put football? The MVFC has just four members from the Summit. Wondering what incentive Indiana State, Murray State, Youngstown State, et al. would have to bring in Northern Colorado. On the other hand, maybe the Summit is looking to sponsor football. However, to reach the minimum six schools for an automatic NCAA playoff bid, the league would need a Northern Colorado, plus one other fb program.

Would St. Thomas have any interest in adding football scholarships and moving up from the Pioneer League?

Here’s a seismic shakeup: Missouri State is moving up to FBS and joining Conference-USA. This could work out great for us (we get invited to backfill their slot in the MVC) or not-so-great (the MVC invites someone else from the Summit and we’re potentially down to eight members).

Also: Grand Canyon and Seattle are leaving the WAC for the WCC. Not only does this ensure Denver remains in the Summit (for now), but this might allow the Summit to poach 1+ schools from the WAC.

I have no interest in the MVC. It no longer has Wichita State, Creighton, Loyola or Missouri St.

I have no interest in the MVC. It no longer has Wichita State, Creighton, Loyola or Missouri St. I think I’ve come around to this line of thinking. Not because of the loss of quantity opponents to play, but because the losses mean they’re likely a one-bid conference moving forward. If we’re forced to win the conference to make the tourney either, we might as well play in a league with less members. Nine members = less competition

Grand Canyon and Seattle to WCC.
I'm on the fence about a move to the MVC. I dislike the Summit because the conference tournament is a sham. I think the Summit is more on par with our abilities right now. That could change in the future. The MVC has better name recognition but it isn't the MVC of old. Tournament is at a neutral site like it should be. The main reason I was rooting for us to get into the MVC was so I could conveniently watch the Roos play in Springfield once a year.

MVC tournament in StL wouldn't be a bad deal for us. As for longer road trips, I'll take Nashville over Grand Forks.
I'm wondering whether we've already lost the race with St. Thomas for a spot in the Valley. They didn't dither with their new arena.

This might sound funny, but St. Thomas likely wouldn’t be in the MVC too long (or the Summit for that matter). They see themselves as equals to Marquette and have their sights set on the A-10 and eventually the Big East.

I think the Summit should make a move for Utah Valley to be the tenth member again. They could be a traveling partner for Denver and their basketball program has been really solid in recent years.

I think our location is about the only thing we have going for us as far as the MVC. Kansas City is a large, metropolitan market. When Missouri State goes there will be no MVC teams in Missouri.
We're putting some effort into getting a new arena, so maybe that will help.

From what I’ve read/heard, Drake and Northern Iowa are our biggest supporters in the MVC because they want a footprint in the KC market for academic recruiting purposes.
