expectations

Well, not much traffic on the blog here... I think we are all a little flabbergasted at more than one group picking us to win...
Makes me nervous... we have always exceeded expectations but expectations have always been very low...
Now... what screws up a deep and talented team? Chemistry.

Been around a lot of teams and have seen some things repeat themselves on under achievers... I actually talked to Jamar about this... what is it.

For some reason 18-22 year old players.. if they are highly skilled... somehow come to the conclusion they know more than the coaches... tactics and strategy. Who should play and when.... blah, blah. Of course they dont question the physics teacher in class but many times we see coaches ignored.. We are blessed to have good coaches with experience that are allowed to coach.. Let them coach and the players play

He actually agreed with me.
Imagine if Jamar did not play 36 minutes a game but 29... and was a ball of fire the last 4 minutes... same for point guards and big men... that our guys could be more mentally and physically fresh at game end, and season end... or in our case the 3 days needed to win the tournament... fresher guys on the last day... do do that, the tough alpha men must be humble enough to recognize talent in their teammates and TRUST the coaches to put them in a good spot.

Anybody with news on how we performed in “secret scrimmages” this year? I heard that we played Western Illinois and Lindenwood.

Everyone very unhappy last week Lindenwood... lost a half and won a half.... No Jamar and new guys not happy with themselves... I heard we drubbed Western Ill by 25 today and there was much better focus... this does not mean anything of course but fun to talk about. Next are a couple small schools.. who knows. Fundraiser was absolutely sold out! All the silent bidding was out of my price range so they did well raising money.

Do you have a final projection on the starting lineup and/or expected playing time?

I get the feeling the guys are willing to be patient on playing time... If we win. But that will not be easy.... we will be playing a couple of top 10 KenPom teams in next couple weeks... won't be easy... The deal is, Marvin has done this so much... has been picked first and managed his team through high expectations...
