I'm very unhappy about the direction of our program right now. We had alot of momentum under the previous coach and all of that is gone. When does somebody hold the Athletic Director accountable for the mess he created? If we are ever going to have success we need change at the top.

As much as I like Donlon and wanted him to remain here, I think Menzies is the better coach and might work out for the best. I think the team (and the school) likely expected this team to take their lumps this season. I think the true evaluations will begin over the next 2-3 seasons.
Also, this is just a theory and I have no evidence to back this up, but part of me wonders if the school believes Dr. Martin is the best person to oversee any hypothetical facility renovations/expansions. They’re listed in the campus master plan but are likely going to need some public/private partnerships. From what I’ve heard, he has connections to a lot of the Kansas City business community. I won’t hold my breath, but…

Team wins and arena builds itself. Menzies builds a program and Donlon coaches a team... since Donlon was only coaching, the cupboard was bare after his seniors played out and he would have to start over.. did not want to risk getting fired so he quit... So Marv came in and got us good players and is built for the future and to regenerate itself.

I appreciate the work Coach Donlon did in his time here. I definitely didn't want to see him go. But looking at his history with Wright State I kind of thought that a winning record and one or two wins in the conference tourney was the ceiling for his teams. Maybe a spot in one of the post season tourneys. Last season was a fun season but I never thought we were in danger of winning the conference.
I think the potential ceiling for Coach Menzies is much higher. He knows how to get teams to the NCAA Tournament. My main concern is that he never won an NCAA Tourney game with some really good NMSU teams. I know I'm getting ahead of myself. When he gets us a conference championship and a date at the Big Dance, win or lose, we'll probably start looking for donations to erect a statue of him.
Plus, it seems like injuries are an issue every season no matter who is coaching.
