Roos playing against the defending Big Ten champs, up 5-3 after four minutes. Game is on the Big Ten Network. We’ve been a little rattled by their pressure but have dominated the glass so far.

Illinois is ICE cold from the beyond the arc so far. Roos doing a good job breaking the press and working it inside; much improved shot selection so far. Great job rotating on the zone defense as well. 9-5 us with 12:52 remaining in the first half.

Illinois starting to warm up and connect on a few and-ones. Making us pay for some sloppy ball handling on offense. Roos fall behind 16-15 with 9:54 to go in the first half.

Fighting Illini pull away in the final ten minutes of the first half and lead 39-23 at the half. Allen and Mitchell are our only flashes of hope on offense right now. Lack of a true ball handler is really killing us... just too many costly turnovers. Their transition game is starting to wear us down on the other end, which played a big part in the 16-point deficit. Have also missed all seven three-point attempts. On the bright side, we're hanging with them on the boards.

More of the same in the second half, Roos fall on the road 86-48. Difference in this game: Illinois have reserves that can come off the bench and hit three pointers with ease. We barely have any shooters in our starting lineup. Coach Marv needs to recruit some shooters and ball handlers for next year’s team. Getting Kopp back will be very helpful.
Still, a good learning experience on the road. You could tell it wasn’t sustainable, but the first ten minutes were FUN when we shut their crowd up and beat their full-court press. Made them back off for a bit. Showed some poise.

That was a tough game for us, but it was an opportunity to grow and get better. Not making our 3 pointers has made it that much more difficult for us offensively. I have to think that will vastly improve as the new guys get more comfortable on the court.
Calvary Bible up next, and likely a legacy game scheduled under the prior staff. Another day to get more comfortable on the court with each other, and hopefully more minutes for Dimou, Sullivan, Diallo, etc…

No disrespect to them, but they do nothing for us. Not only should we have an all-D1 schedule, but I hope we schedule strategically depending on where we want to recruit. For example, we should have Lindenwood and SIUE annually for St. Louis recruiting, Chicago State for Chicagoland recruiting, and so on. It could be a potential selling point if we can tell a recruit that they get to go home and play in front of their family and friends at least twice in their college career.

I expect us to be more competitive. At least scrap with the big dogs for a bit.
