2022 transfer portal

I saw this, and really find it fascinating. These kids really need guidance. Many of those that do find a new basketball home have had to drop down a level. D1 isn’t everything, but it’s fun to compete at the highest level. If you have a D1 scholarship and are contributing , it probably makes sense to stay where your at unless it’s just a toxic culture, environment, bad academic fit, etc…. Otherwise, these young men have a good chance of transferring to a similar level or lower, or being out of a scholarship altogether. Difficult times for these young men to navigate.


2021-22 Transfer Portal Breakdown as of 5-17

Freshman: 378 D1 players are still in the portal, 698 total went in.

Sophomores: 221 D1 players are still in the portal, 439 total went in.

Juniors: 233 D1 players are still in the portal, 488 total went in.

it is weird sometimes... I see UMKC as a golden opportunity no matter the level of player... chance to over achieve all the way to raise the program to a new level.... HOwEVEr.... there is no accounting for the 20 year old male brain, body pumping testosterone, posse that knows nothing.....My coach was such a kind and great man, yet sometimes I thought I knew best... looking back, such a joke.... Imagine if I had a circle of friends that said "No, You need to go to Texas A&M.. I see how coach ain't using you right" What a bunch of crap!!!! They will find out that love is one the ingredients for a great team... and if you don't return the love a coach is giving out (yes, including tough love) then they may not need you... and coaches know each other. Now, the exception. We had a player that led the team in one of our worst years.. low double figures, very smart... came to coach at year end and said.... Coach, I am not good enough for this and need to go find a division 2 or 3 team.... that kind of maturity is hard to find... coach liked him and appreciated him but it was true. Most guys woulds said, yeah this team sucks... on a good team I would be even better... this guy said, this team sucks BECAUSE I am the best player on it.
