Let's talk about a place where people actually need rescuing. South Sudan was created about 12 years ago. As a functioning state, it failed to launch. It is a much more violent, lawless place than 64130 or wherever Darrius Hughes used to live in KC.
UMKC didn't rescue anyone from East Africa. As with Hughes, you should look to the people who made the high school education possible. But it is remarkable that coach Menzies has so many Sudanese players. Is there any precedent in D-I basketball? The Roos previously had A. Leek, but not multiple Sudanese at the same time.
Perhaps some of our newest Roos will return to South Sudan someday. They appear to be high character people.

If you look at guys from Sudan... if they have a birthday of January 1, it means they are probably one of the lost boys who had their parents killed... there is a large population in the KC area and was started by Manute Bol who became a one man immigration system.. spending his fortune to rescue families from that barbaric war. Note. Aleer Leek had a January 1 Birthday.

Commentary from Beavis and Butt-Head. :20 Butt-Head - "Is this Manute Bol?" Beavis - "Yeah. That dude can slam dunk without even jumping" :50 Beavis - "Maybe this isn't Manute Bol." Butt-Head - "Yeah. Manute Bol can sing better than this. That man has lipstick on."
