I have been a business owner for a long time... now starting my retirement.... I have been around sports teams my whole life from the television angle. Things happen to teams all the time. People get sick, they get pissed off, they have affairs, they don't get along, they have huge misunderstandings.
It is pretty easy to see that Billy had a job before he left this one. They left on good terms... you fire a coach, you don't get a quote, he leaves, you don't thank him... it takes more than a day to get a job.... So, all this is a two way street. Billy is the best COACH of Basketball we have ever had.
Great tactician and teacher.
You CANNOT X and O your way out of our problem... and guys that are directive and not collegial cannot get us out of a losing culture, an uncommitted city and fan base, and a faculty centric university that can oppose athletics...
We Need a HEAD COACH that will have someone for Xs and Os but also can go to the community, tell a joke, make friends, convince people to sponsor or come to a game, and do the tough stuff to build the program.... that means going to boring meetings, listening to dumb asses like us tell him how to run the thing, go on sponsorship meetings.... all that stuff that the great ones never do... since they did not build the program... People who build programs do that stuff and it is hard too... Webber woulda been great but I think he passed on it.
EVEN IF the AD hates a coach, he does not want change when things are improving... a guy that is a great coach sometimes has major chinks in his armor when it comes to people skills... I know. I am a person lacking people skills but off the charts on technology or strategic thinking. My people skills have held back my inventions and innovations... just a fact... We are ready for a program guy. So let's just let Brandon Martin do his job and evaluate after that.. he has moved us forward so far. This should be looked at as an opportunity.
