Second home game in four nights for the Roos. We beat them last year out west. I’m not at the game tonight but I believe Kopp is once again out. Will try to provide updates.

Roos down 34-28 at the half. ISU is 1-6… not ideal.

The growing pains continue and the Roos fall to ISU 75-65. Wasn’t at the game so can’t give any insights into what happened (or didn’t happen). Hopefully we can salvage a win in this homestand on Saturday against Lindenwood.

It seems that the victories at the tournament were more due to Toledo and Indiana State being overconfident and not preparing for us.

Kopp had a cast on his arm that went to the elbow. Barnes had knee surgery to repair MCL injury according to red shirt players I talked to at the game tonight. The first half was awful. Left the 2 best shooters for ISU wide open, they were 7-11 from 3 at half, while the Roos were 1-11. The Roos were out rebounded by the non athletic bigs of ISU. About 10 minutes left in the second half the Roos starting guarding the shooters and rebounding the ball. They went from down 15 to within 4 points late in the game. The ball movement was lacking without Kopp and no 3 point shooters! The freshman are improving, but Coach better bring in a couple of experienced guards next season that can move the ball and shoot the 3 ball.

It seems our biggest challenge is offense. We have to work so hard to score points because our shooting has been poor. We are not a threat from the perimeter (2-23 on 3 point attempts), so we often end up scoring on shots that require great athleticism. Idaho State ran a slow, unremarkable offense and made shots (11 of 19 on 3 point attempts). It is good enough to beat us when we limit ourselves like that.

It was tough to watch once again. I was at the last two games and it all the same. Spacing is horrible during possessions, most freshmen are scared to shoot the ball and just stand and watch when RayQ or Shermarri have the ball. We should have easily beat ISU last night. They started to pick up the defensive intensity at the 10 min mark in the 2nd half. Where is the intensity throughout the game? Seems the players don't like throwing it down to the bigs (either they don't trust the bigs skill set or that the bigs will not make the proper play once they get it). There is promise for this young group but I thought they would be further along by now. The young players need to step up and now show why they were recruited as D1 players. GO ROOS!!!!

AK adds an element that wins games... taking charges, making big 3s, help defense... and..... yelling at guys on the floor.... I am choosing to look at this as an opportunity for the young guys to be forced to take on more responsibility and grow faster with all the discomfort included... then when AK returns... much better... did not even have to buy extra sugar for that sugar coating.
