With the OVC, Lindenwood has a regional conference for nearly every sport. Edwardsville, Macomb, Cape Girardeau, and Martin are all very close. Fargo, on the other hand, is not close at all. So I have trouble squeezing this fantasy into a realistic framework. Lindenwood might be interested in moving to the Missouri Valley at some point. Until then... Oh no doubt. On top of that, I don’t think NDSU/SDSU would want to leave the MVFC.

Augustana is reacting to this with a big "NO COMMENT." I think they have realized that they seemed overeager (desperate?) for Summit membership two years ago.
Augie issued a terse press release saying they aren't looking for a new conference at the moment. Of course, they would not turn down an invitation from the Summit.
The league will ultimately let them in. It may be a year or three down the road, but it will happen.
The need to proactively maintain membership numbers will trump the territorial tendencies of SDSU and USD. In this era, the only way a mid-major gets a significant number of home basketball games is to be in a large conference. Nine members won't cut it...and the situation gets serious if the Summit loses another school on its geographic fringe.
Lots of chat out there about alternatives to Augustana, but no one else is interested.

The Summit is getting some good press this week, with ORU going to the College World Series in Omaha.
Congrats to them.
